Universal Plug & Play (UPnP) is used to provide connected computers with status information about the FRITZ!Box. This function must be enabled for FRITZ!DSL to display status information. It has no influence on the security settings of the FRITZ!Box.
Programs that support UPnP can be used to change security settings automatically, such as the FRITZ!Box port forwarding rules. For reasons of security, only enable this option if you really want to allow incoming connections from the Internet.
This setting allows the DSL service provider the secure (encrypted) transfer of the Internet account information and log-in data for Internet telephony on this FRITZ!Box. Not every Internet Service provider or Internet telephony carriers supports this function.
When this setting is selected, the service provider can update the firmware of this device as needed in order to improve the services offered.
This setting makes it possible to specify that compatible programs in the FRITZ!Box be used to establish a connection from the computer to the configuration system for automatic configuration by the service provider.
